Dear GEIVEX members,

We are pleased to announce the opening of the second round of the 2026 GEIVEX Mobility Fellowships, aimed at supporting Early Career Researchers and promoting scientific collaboration within the extracellular vesicle (EV) research community.

In this call, GEIVEX will fund two mobility fellowships, with a maximum amount of €2,000 each. Applications must be submitted to secretaria@geivex.org before 30th of November, indicating in the subject line “GEIVEX mobility fellowship 2026” followed by the applicant’s name.

The GEIVEX Mobility Fellowships support travel, accommodation and maintenance expenses associated with research stays between GEIVEX-associated researchers and GEIVEX-associated laboratories. These fellowships aim to foster scientific exchange, strengthen collaborations between research groups and contribute to the professional development of early-career researchers in the EV field.

Fellowship conditions

1. Purpose of the call

The GEIVEX Mobility Fellowships aim to promote scientific mobility among GEIVEX students and researchers in training by facilitating research stays at leading research centres headed by GEIVEX investigators, thereby contributing to their academic and professional development.

2. Applicant eligibility requirements

PhD students, postdoctoral researchers and Principal Investigators (PIs) may apply for a GEIVEX Mobility Fellowship, provided they meet the following requirements:

GEIVEX membership

  • Applicants must be GEIVEX members at the time of submitting their application.
  • Applicants must have maintained their GEIVEX membership for a minimum of two years.
  • As an exception, students who become GEIVEX members in the same year in which they apply for the fellowship may be eligible, provided they commit to maintaining their membership for at least one additional year. In this case, the membership fee corresponding to that additional year will be deducted from the awarded fellowship.

Researcher’s country of origin

  • GEIVEX members conducting their research outside Spain may apply for a Mobility Fellowship only if the country in which they are based does not have a National Society of Extracellular Vesicles (NSEV).
  • GEIVEX members residing outside Spain are not eligible for a GEIVEX Mobility Fellowship if they have applied for another mobility grant in the same call (MOVE or IVEronet).
  • Applying for two grants within the same call will result in the exclusion of both applications.

Academic and career stage

  • Master’s or PhD students.
  • Early-career researchers who defended their doctoral thesis within the two years preceding the fellowship application.
  • Applications from PIs or early-career researchers who defended their doctoral thesis more than two years before the application will also be accepted; however, priority will be given to applicants in the two categories listed above.

3. Requirements for host research groups

Host research groups must meet the following requirements:

  1. The group must belong to a university, research center, hospital, public organization or recognized private institution conducting research in experimental, biomedical, health sciences or related fields.
  2. The group must have a Principal Investigator or responsible researcher who formally agrees to host the applicant and supervise the work plan throughout the mobility period.
  3. The responsible researcher must be a current GEIVEX member with at least three years of membership or an equivalent commitment to maintaining membership.
  4. The host group must be based at an institution different from the one where the applicant normally conducts their research or completed their doctoral thesis.
  5. The host group must have the facilities, infrastructure and resources necessary to ensure the proper development of the proposed project or training activity.
  6. The research stay must provide clear added value to the applicant’s training by offering access to techniques, methodologies, knowledge, infrastructure or collaborations that are not available at their home institution.
  7. Particular consideration will be given to research stays that promote new scientific collaborations between the home and host groups, as well as those with the potential to generate scientific results or strengthen the applicant’s research career.

4. Duration of the research stay

Research stays must last a minimum of three weeks and a maximum of three months.

5. Budget

  • The maximum fellowship amount will be €2,000.
  • An initial payment of €750 will be transferred to the student’s bank account after the contract between GEIVEX and the student has been signed.
  • The remaining amount will be transferred after the fellowship period has ended and the expenses have been properly justified.

6. Compatibility with other funding

A GEIVEX Mobility Fellowship may be combined with other grants intended to fund the research stay, provided that neither the terms and conditions of those grants nor the regulations set out herein explicitly prohibit such compatibility, and that no double funding of the same expenses occurs.

7. Award decision

Applications will be evaluated by the committee appointed by GEIVEX, in accordance with the criteria established in the annual call. The committee’s decision will be reasoned and final.
