Agarose spot migration assay to measure the chemoattractant potential of extracellular vesicles: applications in regenerative medicine and cancer metastasis

A study from the IVECAT group (led by Geivex founder Dr. Francesc E Borràs) B-ARGO and RCPB groups at IGTP has shown the potential of using an agarose-spot migration assay to analyse the chemoattractant capacity of Extracellular Vesicles (EVs) in vitro. The study has been recently published in BMC Biology. Increasing evidence suggests that cancer […]

Guidelines for the purification and characterization of extracellular vesicles of parasites

Just published in the Journal of Extracellular Biology, guidelines to work with EVs in parasitic diseases lead by Carmen Fernandez-Becerra, Martin Olivier and Ana Claudia Torrecilhas, in collaboration with several international groups. In this position paper, the authors have covered the methods for the isolation and molecular characterization of EVs obtained from parasite-infected cell cultures, […]

Optimization of extracellular vesicle isolation and their separation from lipoproteins by size exclusion chromatography

Just published in The Journal of Extracellular Biology from the group of Dr Yáñez-Mó, in collaboration with Agarose Bead Technologies (ABT). Authors have studied the agarose parameters that define the resolution in size exclussion chromatography to acieve better isolation of EVs from lipoproteins. Congrats to all authors! The full article is available at https://doi.org/10.1002/jex2.100

Extracellular vesicles from the trematodes Fasciola hepatica and Dicrocoelium dendriticum trigger different responses in human THP-1 macrophages

A great work just published in The Journal of Extracellular Vesicles from the group of Dr Marcilla. Extracellular vesicles (EVs) released by the helminths Dicrocoelium dendriticum and Fasciola hepatica are important modulators of the host immune response, contributing to the establishment of the infection. Monocytes and, in particular, macrophages are major regulators of the inflammatory response and are likely […]

Extracellular vesicles from pristane-treated CD38 deficient mice express and antiinflammatory neutrophil protein signature, which reflects the mild lupus severity elicited in these mice

This is an article published in Frontiers in Immunology, as part of the Research Topic:Extracellular Vesicles in Inflammatory Responses and Inflammation-AssociatedDiseases. Researchers from the Dept of Cellular Biology and Immunology, Institute ofParasitology and Biomedicine Lopez-Neyra (IPBLN), CSIC, Granada, present a studyof extracellular vesicles (EV). They analyze the protein composition, proteinabundance, and functional clustering of EV […]

Standardising the preanalytical reporting of biospecimens to improve reproducibility in extracellular vesicle research – A GEIVEX study

The standardization of clinical studies using extracellular vesicles (EVs) has mainly focused on the procedures employed for their isolation and characterization; however, preanalytical aspects of sample collection, handling and storage also significantly impact the reproducibility of results. We conducted an online survey based on SPREC (Standard PREanalytical Code) among members of GEIVEX (Grupo Español de […]
